What to do Kids In New York

As the home of Coney Island, the state of New York lays claim to one of the world’s first and most famous amusement parks. Brooklyn’s venerable seaside fun center is still chugging along after all these years along with other parks spread throughout the state. While there are no full-fledged water theme parks in New York City, you don’t have to go too far to find some awesome ones. The city have rounded up 12 of our favourites for kids in the tristate area, mostly in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and all less than a two-hour drive from Midtown Manhattan. No two are alike: Each one offers different experiences and thrills.

Founded in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society, the Wildlife Conservation Society was one of the first conservation organizations in the U.S. The Society began with a clear mandate: Advance wildlife conservation, promote the study of zoology, and create a first-class zoo. In fact there have five: the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and New York Aquarium. The Thompson Park Zoo exhibits species that are, or at one time were, native to New York State. Abundant, threatened or endangered animals, including wolverines, bears, eagles, mountain lions and more make their home at our 32-acre Zoo. The Thompson Park Zoo is dedicated to providing natural world experiences that foster an appreciation of the Empire State’s ecosystems through conservation, education, scientific study and responsible recreation.

Science comes alive for kids at Science Museum of Long Island: visit for fun or dig deeper with summer camp offerings where kids work on experiments, projects and cool inventions. Two New York museums made the “Top Ten List of Museums for Geeks”: Niagara Science Museum and National Center for the History of Electronic Games. The first is a sanctuary for the preservation and appreciation of old science instruments and the art of creation, centering on the heyday of the Industrial Revolution, and the second, located at Strong National Museum for Play, has over 20,000 games and consoles, all in working condition and available to play!
